HostingSeekers Audit Reveals Massive Shift in Hosting Industry: Good Service Providers Growing While 130+ Low Performers Exit the Market

Mohali, IN - HostingSeekers latest industry audit reveals that over 130 web hosting providers have exited the market, highlighting increasing consolidation in the industry. The findings indicate that rising operational and licensing costs are making it difficult for poorly performing small and part-time hosting providers to sustain their businesses, while reliable ones still stand firmly.

HostingSeekers, a leading global player in the web hosting directory, has released its latest industry audit after six months of observation, which shows how concentrated the web hosting industry is becoming, as only the one fully focused on the hosting services remains tall, while over 130 hosting companies have officially closed their operations. This indicates an unstable time for small- to mid-sized providers and side-hustle enterprises.

The data shows that the "part-time" hosting model is almost underwater. Most of the closures are of independent server administrators and web development agencies that offered hosting as a secondary service.

The "Licensing Trap": A Barrier to Sustainability

Insights from the audit show a tightening of profit margins, primarily due to increasing costs for standard software and infrastructure in a given sector.

Aleksandr Kurnik, CEO of GPD Host, shared his thoughts on the closure of his business after 2 years due to the inability to continue paying overhead and other associated costs becoming overwhelming.

"The weight of monthly WHMCS and cPanel licensing fees has become a primary hurdle for smaller players," said Aleksandr Kurnik. “Even with a stable client base, the rising cost of these essential tools makes it nearly impossible to maintain a healthy bottom line for a small-scale operation.”

Infrastructure Overhead Burdening Resellers

The audit also discussed some challenges in both the VPS and Reseller markets. Naresh Kumar, founder of AmusedHost, a niche provider of VPS hosting via OVH infrastructure, indicated that the shift in IP address pricing has significantly increased costs.

Bulk IP Costs: In the past, the IP address setup cost was not much; you hardly needed a one-time or minimal setup fee. But the reseller who doesn't have their own hardware needs to bear the ongoing cost of monthly IP space.

Dead Profits: Although overall business has been consistent in terms of sales, due to continued high costs from upstream licensing, the business has not been able to earn a profit for the past 24 months.

Market Implications

"We are seeing the end of the 'hobbyist' hosting era," said a spokesperson for HostingSeekers." The new trend is moving toward a professional, high-volume market in which only those with a large volume of services or a unique value proposition will be able to offset the fixed costs of cPanel, Plesk, and WHMCS."

This shift suggests that only hosting companies that provide constant good services and operational stability are likely to survive in the long term, while low-performing and part-time hosting providers may continue to exit the market.

HostingSeekers recommends that customers using smaller hosting providers maintain extra backups and keep a close eye on their provider's financial stability and service performance. We will continue to update our listings to protect consumers and provide transparency in this uncertain market condition.
